Overlaps with other disorders

  • Children who are affected by developmental language disorders often also have other developmental or behavioural difficulties (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia). The exact relationship between these disorders is unclear. It could be that they share genetic contributory factors or could be that one disorder puts you at an increased risk of another.

Research Question: are there genetic variants that are shared between speech and language disorders and other developmental disorders?

This project is in collaboration with researchers at the University of St Andrews, the SLI Consortium and the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC).
