Javier Monllor, Brookes Sports Ambassador

  • My name is Javier Monllor and I'm from the island of Puerto Rico. I recently joined Oxford Brookes as a Senior Lecturer at OBBS and I'm super excited about the opportunity.

Starting in 2012, I got the triathlon bug and spent the next few years competing in 70.3 and Full Distance Ironman triathlons all around the United States and was lucky enough to qualify and race in the 70.3 Ironman World Championship in Mont Tremblant, Canada. Six years ago, I fell in love with trail and ultra running (races that are longer than a marathon) and have participated in ultra distance events from 30 to 100 miles that take anywhere from 7 to 22 hours of constant running.

Trail running has opened the world to me and I've had the opportunity to visit some of the most beautiful and exotic places in the world. From Torres del Paine in Patagonia, Chile to crossing the Grand Canyon in the USA, to Europe's biggest and most important trail race, Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France.

I'm keen to share my experiences, my pictures and a little bit of what it takes to train for these types of races with all of you. I'm super passionate about the sport, so let's meet up over coffee if you want to talk trail or ultra running... or ice cream, bread making or entrepreneurship!
