2020 Sports Awards

Announcing the nominees for the 2020 #TEAMBrookes Sportsman of the Year Award

Will Price, Fencing

Will’s standout moment of the year came during the BUCS Individual Championships where he proved himself to be a truly talented fencer claiming 3rd in the Men’s Foil discipline.

As captain of the Men’s team he has been a strong leader in performance with the team, navigating Tier 1 of the Midlands Conference after their promotion last year. As well as competitive success, Will will often take a hands on approach during training sessions and works to make everyone feel welcomed.

Ben Jones, American Football

Ben has made an impact on and off the pitch during his three years playing American Football at Brookes. He has been an established, dominant force in defence having sacked the most opposition player. For the past season he was the Defensive Captain and helped contribute to the Brookes’ team finishing 3rd in Tier 2 of the Southern Conference having won four out of their six games.

Ben’s team celebrated him as one of the “finest Panthers to play the game,” and his game play, consistency and dedication earned him a place on the All Star South Team.

Ian Mileikis, Basketball

Ian was a dominant for the Men’s Basketball Team who celebrated a successful year finishing 2nd in Tier 2 of the Midlands Conference and also winning the Division 3 (South West) National League regular season title.

Ian was a force in all of the games he played for the basketball club and was also voted as the MVP of their National League division. He is a very talented Basketball player who will be greatly missed by his team next year.

Zaman Ahkter, Hockey and MCCU

Zum is one of the strongest hockey players that #TEAMBrookes has ever had and has consistently been one of the strongest players on the pitch for all of his 3 years at Oxford Brookes playing the Men’s 1st team. However, not only is he an incredibly strong hockey player, but he is a very talented cricketer as he also represents the Oxford MCCU.

He successfully balances his sporting and academic commitments and is a dedicated and determined competitor. Zum is certainly a rare talent and his abilities will definitely be missed by both the MCCU and Hockey Club next year.
