MCCU Cricket

The MCCU cricket program had a special year during the 2019/20 season. It started with the team competing at the World University T20 tournament in Trinidad where they finished runners up showing excellent levels of skill and passion whilst up against much older players. Once back in the UK they celebrated some victories ahead of their university season.

Throughout the season, the team had shown high levels of skill, determination and professionalism, but had often lacked consistency. However, during the semi-final and the final of the BUCS competition, due to the team’s ability to think correctly in the heat of the moment, they were able to come out on top and be crowned BUCS champions.

Rugby League Men's 1st

The Rugby League Men’s 1st Team had a historic, almost unblemished record this year, where they recorded only one defeat. They finished the season top of the Southern Tier 1 League and qualified for the BUCS Big Wednesday, after beating Oxford University in the semi-final of the Trophy. This momentous victory was the second time the team beat their local rival this season as they also had a historic Derby Day victory over them.

The team was a dominant force this year, showing both strength and depth with their players stepping up to the challenge at every point. The team operates a strong family ethos, focusing on inclusion and developing players. Within the Rugby League club, the 1st and 2nd teams train together, which allows for a strong club structure, maintaining the best interests of the members.

Basketball Women’s 1st

The Women’s Basketball Team were a force to be reckoned with in the Midlands Conference, having an unbeaten season across their Tier 3 League games and were crowned Conference Cup winners, beating teams from higher tiers throughout the run.

This is a huge turn around for the team who lost all of their games in the previous year. All season they consistently scored above 50 points with the majority of games exceeding 70 points.
