My Entry into CrossFit
Friday, 01 June 2018
6 weeks…yep I actually have to do this now! I have always had an interest in starting CrossFit and after speaking to Craig Richey and Jaz (2 CrossFit athletes I love) at Body Power I decided it was time. So, with the help of the Brookes Sport team, I have signed up for 6 weeks of CrossFit fun. I will be partaking in CrossFit Barbell
They are, in my opinion…superhuman!
I have never felt so unwell during and after a workout in all my life... but the adrenaline during the workout and the endorphins after felt incredible.
Nervous doesn’t even cover it. If you haven’t watched any CrossFit athletes working out I suggest you do so to understand why! They are, in my opinion…superhuman! The workouts they put their bodies through is just beyond. They are short, intense and high intensity. The athletes push themselves and their bodies above and beyond. Nothing seems to get in their way. I have only done one session previously at a CrossFit gym, a team WOD (Workout of The Day) and I have never felt so unwell during and after a workout in all my life... but the adrenaline during the workout and the endorphins after felt incredible. I felt like I had achieved something!
I’m incredibly excited to start the CrossFit workouts during the 6 weeks I have signed up for. It is a new challenge for me to face and it will finally get me into CrossFit. I mean we all know I am up for a challenge (hint: remember when I had my first climbing session…hungover?!). I am excited to push my body beyond what I feel like it can do and beyond what I ever have before. I am also excited about learning new things, improving technique on movements I know and learning how I can achieve sessions in a short amount of time but really make them count.
I know that with CrossFit… comes movements like burpees.
I’m nervous just thinking about him (Stephen Davis) putting me through my paces...
However, I know that with CrossFit… comes movements like burpees. The dreaded burpees are not my exercise. They are harder than weighted exercises themselves in my opinion! Learning to include exercises I dislike and find hard into my workouts will hopefully teach me how to use discipline and practice on these movements. The majority of the time we do not like these movements because we aren’t very good at them.
I have seen coach Stephen Davis around the gym (who hasn’t?!) and I’m nervous just thinking about him putting me through my paces. The way he pushes himself, his discipline, his technique and strength… I am hoping he can help me and I’m really looking forward to getting started. Nervous…yet excited!
