My motivation in becoming a sports ambassador

Hi, my name is Dante Szpakowski and I am a 19 year old Brookes student. I have lived in 4 different countries and moved 19 times in my life. Changing environments can be a big challenge for a person both emotionally and physically, especially for a child or a teenager. By keeping busy with sports I distracted myself from the tough environment, which made me realise how much I enjoy them. For me, using sports as a distraction allowed me to experience a whole host of other benefits as well as coping with moving so often. I found by attending any sort of fitness class or simply going to the gym I was able to socialise and increase my mental/ physical health and became more confident which has allowed me to succeed in ways I never thought I could.
Like most people I have stressful situations in my life, some small and some big. Working out or performing some sort of physical activity clears my mind and is a good stress release.
From a young age I was brought up with variety of sports; kayaking, karate, and basketball to name a few. Like most people I have stressful situations in my life, some small and some big. Working out or performing some sort of physical activity clears my mind and is a good stress release. It is a health habit for my body and mind which allows me to achieve my own personal goals.
This year I am doing my second year of law and as many of you have probably experienced for yourself, university can be challenging; with tons of reading, seminar preparations, coursework and of course examinations at the end of the semester! As a result good time management is key but it can be hard to achieve. Going to the gym or a fitness class for an hour will calm and focus your mind and provides a routine allowing you to manage your time better while still being active and healthy. According to the Exercise & Sports Science Australia exercise improves energy levels, increases productivity and promotes better sleep quality.
I myself, go to the gym 5 times a week, additionally, I attend CrossFit-like circuit training, kickboxing classes and I am also a member of a taekwondo and a boxing club. Many get overwhelmed when they hear about the amount of training I do. It is indeed the busiest schedule I have ever had! However, I have never been as time efficient and happier than I am now. I now have energy to complete my work and knowing I have training or the gym motivates me to get my work done and be more efficient whereas I used to be unproductive and found myself not achieving my goals.
I would like to present my fitness progress and show how much anyone can achieve in a relatively short amount of time by working out and eating right.
My key role, reason and motivation in becoming a sports ambassador for Oxford Brookes University is that I would like to give to the people; my fellow students, what sports´ has given me. Since my childhood my dad has been repeating “in a healthy body lives a healthy mind”. It is entirely true with many scientific studies supporting this. What I mean by “giving back” is that I would like to motivate more people; fellow students, friends and acquaintances and others to live a happier and healthier life for both their mind and body. I would like to present my fitness progress and show how much anyone can achieve in a relatively short amount of time by working out and eating right.
Everyone is welcome regardless of your motive and whatever your needs are we will do our best to meet them. Brookes Sport offers a wide variety of facilities, sports classes and clubs. Therefore, I assure everyone reading this will find something they will enjoy.
