It is a new calendar year and our dual-career students continue to experience sporting success on the international stage. Following Jack Elliot and Doug Chirnside’s journey to the Rugby League Student World Cup semi-finals in July with Scotland, Erin McGready (Sports Coaching and Physical Education, 1st year) begins her own World Championship campaign ‘Down Under’ this week as part of the GB Ultimate u24 Women’s team.
For Erin, who is one of our Santander Sports Scholars and also part of the Netball 1st team, the 11-team tournament marks the end of a successful first semester. Part of ReadingX’s Mixed European Cup bronze medal team, she also lead Brookes Women’s team to 8th at the BUCS Indoors in November, winning the Plate.
The u24 Ultimate World Championships begin on Monday 8th January in Perth. Follow the progress of Erin and the rest of the team »
As Erin heads off to compete, another of our talented athletes is beginning their preparation for international competition. Connor Gorsuch (International Business Management, 2nd year) is one of just eight shooters selected for Great Britain at the World University Shooting Championships in Kuala Lumpur in March.
Connor, who is the only British competitor in the Olympic Trap, is the Junior British record holder in Double Trap. He is also well-versed on the world stage, winning bronze at the ISSF World Championships in 2015 (his first international competition). We look forward to supporting Connor to do even better this year in Malaysia.
Oxford Brookes University is committed to developing and supporting the sporting excellence of our students. Each year, with the kind support of Santander, we offer a number of Sports Scholarships to Brookes’ students who show, or have shown, outstanding talent and success in their chosen sport.
