Panthers-in-the-community

On Thursday 20th October, the Oxford Brookes University American Football Team – The Panthers – visited the Nettlebed Community School near Henley-On-Thames, to help coach an afterschool session that was being held on the sport.

Ravenscroft Sports Academy Ltd., run by Panther and local businessman Louis, host after-school sessions at local schools including introductory American Football sessions for 6-11 year olds at Nettlebed. Thursday’s session saw Co-President Ian Whitehead and Kit Manager Jamie Pierce step in and lead a session introducing the rules of the game to the children whilst playing some fun Football based activities.

After the session, both Panthers were extremely impressed with the skills on display. Ian said:

Thursday was an excellent afternoon for all those involved, and we were extremely impressed with the talent on display from all the kids! As a team we’re really keen on spreading awareness for the sport and want to get more people playing American Football from a young age!

The Panthers hope to one day see some of the kids from the sessions make it to Brookes and join the team in the future!
