Introducing Simon Mace
My name
is Simon Mace. I’m 49 years old, and am a Brookes Sport ambassador.
I am also into my
eighth year after being diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer which has had
serious effects on my mobility.
Before my diagnosis I was
cabin crew for British Airways, and enjoyed a very active life – both through
sport and socially.
Working for BA I had
the opportunity to travel the world extensively, and have had the privilege to
see some incredible places across the globe.
One of my passions was
sport, fitness and health – I was long term gym goer and spent many years in
the gym, mainly with a focus on my cardio fitness and toning exercises. I was
particularly addicted to Body Pump (a class which focuses on using lighter
free weights with high reps), which I would go to at least once each week. When
Body Pump was concerned, I was a fanatic!
I was also a very keen
swimmer and would go as often as I could, and you could often find me running
too.
As a spectator I spent
a lot of time following Oxford United, and my interest in football also led me
to join the football team linked to my gym. I’d also keenly follow national and
international sporting events on TV, always watching the Olympics, World Cup,
etc.
Fitness, good
nutrition and a healthy lifestyle have always been, and will continue to be a
major part of my life.
A lot of this has
changed since my cancer diagnosis, which I’ll write more about in future posts.
