Luke Morgan Taekwondo1

Oxford Brookes student, Luke Morgan, recently traveled to Belgium to compete in a Taekwondo tournament, bringing back a brace of Silver medals. His words are below:

I was proud to represent the UK at the Taekwondo ITL Belgium Flanders field tournament, in honour of the fallen heroes and what they represent. The World War I battlefields in an area straddling the Belgian provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders where many lives were lost.

Twenty countries were represented this year with over 60 federations. Looking back to my last major competition in August (World Championships) I decided to go up a weight category for this tournament and found much success in comfortably scoring on my opponents. Personally, I feel happy with my overall performance but the organisation of my final fight lead to a disappointing outcome. Due to the competition running late they only gave myself and my opponent one round for the final whereas it should be 2 rounds. The referees did not inform us of this change, and I lost the final on warnings. This was aggravating to say the least however I couldn’t have altered this.

Unfortunately, in team sparring my team lost before I was able to fight but was given a Silver due to there only being 2 full teams.

I came out of the competition with a Silver in individual Men's -85kg and a Silver in team sparring. Looking forward to the next one which will be held on home ground this month. Thank you Brookes Sport and Diamond MMA for their continued support.
