Favourite food: A Sunday roast, or anything with lots of halloumi
Sporting icon: Sugar Ray Leonard, or Mark Noble - West Ham legend!
How did you get into your sport? I’ve been a big boxing fan for as long as I can remember but didn’t start until I was 17/18. A friend showed me the ropes and I’ve been hooked ever since
Favourite personal sporting moment: Bronze Medal at the University Box Cup
Do you get nervous ahead of fights? In the build up to a fight I’m always nervous as you train for months for one competition. Once I’m in the ring though I try to stay relaxed and enjoy it as that’s when I perform best
If you could compete at a different sport, what would it be? If I had to chose I’d love to play Rugby again as it’s got a balance of skill and physicality, although I wouldn’t last long as most rugby players are twice the size of me
Have you been part of Varsity before - what was it like? This year is the first boxing varsity, so I’ve never been properly involved but previous years I’m usually stood on a side-line showing my support
Tell us about your teammates and club: Boxing is an individual sport that often involves sparring teammates which can get very competitive. However, the respect and bond between me and my teammates from training hard together makes us one big family. We also have a brilliant coach who makes every session interesting
Are there any fixtures in particular you will be looking out for in Reading? Of course all of the boxing match-ups but I’ll be looking forward to watching OBUWRFC getting the win as I think it will be close but Brookes just takes it
What are your predictions for Varsity 2020? I predict that Brookes makes Varsity great again!!
