Businesses of all sizes participate in KTP*. Nationally, businesses that have taken part include companies as diverse as Dyson, Jaguar Land Rover, Sainsbury’s and Unilever. At Brookes we have worked with Sony and InterContinental
Hotels. However, around 80% of KTPs are with small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). These include both technical and business projects.
Taking part in a KTP helps you to develop your enterprise. You bring in expertise that you don’t have in-house, and embed it in your business to become more competitive and productive.
The key person in the partnership is the
KTP Associate. This is an ambitious young graduate who is jointly recruited by the partners to implement the project in your business. Though joining the university’s payroll, their place of work is your company and they work as a
member of your team. Academic staff from the university visit the company every week to guide and supervise their work.
A KTP project is part-funded by a grant from Innovate UK. What the company invests is based on the length of the project and the size of the company; an SME contributes a third of the cost, which averages around £25k per annum. Experience shows
that the benefit to businesses is many times that investment, one reason why KTPs have been an important part of government strategy for 40 years.
*The only exclusions are start-up and micro businesses.
Take the first steps to explore a KTP opportunity with Oxford Brookes. Whatever your needs, it’s likely we have the expertise to help you; and if we don’t, we can recommend someone who does. We’ll work with you to develop a successful KTP application, recruit your KTP graduate, and partner with you to boost your business.
