Due to the global nature of the BSc in Applied Accounting programme, which is run in partnership with the ACCA, BSc graduates are offered the opportunity to attend a Regional Graduation Ceremony.
Oxford Brookes University had the great pleasure of celebrating the graduation of students from the BSc Applied Accounting programme from a wide range of countries on 21 October 2017. The graduation ceremony was held at the JW Marriott hotel, Kuala Lumpur and was attended by over 500 graduates and guests from eleven countries in the region including Malaysia, China, Singapore, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Indonesia.
As well as the graduates and their proud relatives, the event was attended by Oxford Brookes University academic and administrative staff, ACCA colleagues and VIP guests. In addition to the presentation of awards, a number of speeches were given during the ceremony.
Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Oxford Brookes Business School Chris Blackburn began the ceremony by celebrating the success of the graduates for their determination in combining working for a degree and studying to become professional accountants. He continued by thanking the graduates’ family and friends for their support.
Dato’ Merina Abu Tahir, Chief Internal Auditor at Malaysia Airlines and Deputy President of the ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee, commended the graduates for successfully reaching a milestone in their journey to becoming influential business leaders and stated “this is your day to feel empowered, so embrace it”. She also described the illustrious partnership between ACCA and Oxford Brookes University, and how this would inevitably enhance graduates’ prospects of future employment in top-level positions.
Lastly, graduate speaker Mr Jun Yan Cheah, gave the Vote of Thanks and took the opportunity to congratulate the Class of 2017 on all their hard work and accomplishments. He continued by stressing the importance of asking for help and providing help to others when needed, and concluded that the graduates were now ready to take the next step and build their own futures.

Oxford Brookes University was proud to celebrate the graduation of the BSc in Applied Accounting students in the Singapore region on 26 October 2016.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Marina Mandarin Hotel in the Marina Bay District of Singapore and was attended by over 260 graduates and guests from Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Indonesia. Also present were representatives from Oxford Brookes University, ACCA and local learning providers.
The event commenced with gowning and professional photography by Ede & Ravenscroft, followed by the ceremony with awards and speeches and finally a buffet reception.
Pro Vice Chancellor Chris Blackburn commended the graduates on their exceptional determination in having completed their Oxford Brookes degrees in addition to ACCA studies. He also welcomed the graduates to the international community of Oxford Brookes University alumni, urging them to remain in contact with each other and the university and wishing them success in their future careers.
Guest speaker Amos Ng, fellow member of ACCA and chair of the ACCA Singapore Network Panel, also congratulated the graduates and spoke of ACCA’s pride in its partnership with Oxford Brookes, a university with ‘an excellent reputation based on its pursuit of high standards’. He spoke of the ‘rapidly changing economic landscape’, in which accountants play increasingly significant and complex roles in organisations large and small, requiring them to ‘continuously acquire new knowledge and skills’ in order to remain relevant. He encouraged the graduates to continue investing in, creating value and upgrading themselves throughout their careers.
The vote of thanks was given by Sherman Yeo Jian Wang, a BSc in Applied Accounting graduating student, who expressed his gratitude to ACCA and Oxford Brookes University for providing a professional accountancy qualification that is accessible and affordable to those less able to obtain a university degree via the traditional route. He also thanked the lecturers, tutors and mentors for their creativity in supporting the students in achieving their qualifications. He spoke of the ‘important milestone’ they all shared in graduating, wishing the graduates all the best for the future and finally closing with an inspirational quote from Barack Obama:

Oxford Brookes University had the immense pleasure of hosting the BSc Applied Accounting regional graduation ceremony on Saturday 24th February 2018 in Deira, Dubai. A total of over 700 graduates and guests from 22 different countries across Africa, Asia,
Europe, North America and the Gulf States attended our two graduation ceremonies to celebrate this joyous occasion, which was held at the JW Marriott Hotel. Over 275 graduates were presented to the Pro Vice-Chancellor before receiving their alumni
pin badge to mark their new status as Oxford Brookes alumni.

Fazeela Gopalani, Head of Education at ACCA Middle East, extended warm and wholehearted congratulations, acknowledging the "hard work and sacrifice" of both graduates and their families. She also told her own story of hard earned success following her
graduation from ACCA and closed with an inspirational quote by Pelé:
"Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing."
Faisal Azeem, Head of Education – North at ACCA Pakistan, spoke of how honoured he was to witness energetic graduates receiving their degrees. He then shared a speech written by a fellow graduate, Hiba Sohail, who was unable to attend the ceremony. She
spoke of the emotional and special journey the graduates had been on and took the opportunity to offer her heartfelt congratulations to fellow graduates on achieving a great milestone.
The Vote of Thanks was given by graduate speaker Felicia Dumenil, who quoted Gandhi:
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world” and told the graduates they could now proudly raise their heads high as they have reached the end of a great chapter in their lives."
Natasa Savic, UAE Alumni Chapter Lead, spoke at the morning ceremony and explained the many benefits of joining the Oxford Brookes University alumni network as well as emphasising that graduates must build on their skills in order to enhance their own
brand and develop their career.
Comments from graduates who attended the ceremony included: “it was an awesome ceremony and efforts were shown to make it perfect”, “the event was very memorable and well organised” and “the ceremony was amazing and worth visiting”.

Oxford Brookes University would like to offer its warmest congratulations to all graduates of the BSc (Hons) Applied Accounting who attended a Regional Graduation Ceremony in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Dubai; it is a tremendous achievement and students should be proud of this.
By gaining the degree they have shown a robust understanding of not only the technical skills required of accountants but also of the personal and transferable skills and these will serve them in good stead with their future careers.
