Working where it’s hot, dusty and dangerous: Rachel Ellison recounts the story of one female leader working in a war zone. Taking a below-the-surface lens of interpretation, we explore her leadership decisions and dilemmas at the point of urgency.

Another case study takes us into the world of elite, high performance sport. What does it take to be a highly effective leader of para-athletes? And what can the rest of us learn, even if we do a completely different kind of job?

A participative, practical discussion of applied learning. This event encompasses themes of resilience, difference (diversity), success and failure.

Rachel Ellison MBE is an executive leadership coach, who works with C-suite and senior leaders in the commercial, public and third sectors. Formerly a BBC news reporter and international development aid project director, Rachel understands politically unstable, changing and challenging environments. She has expert knowledge of resilience and burn-out. Rachel is known for her work across more than 40 different tribes, nations and organisational cultures.
Rachel was awarded an MBE ‘for the promotion of human rights and the self-empowerment of women in Afghanistan’. In 2019 she received an Honorary Doctorate for her contribution to leadership and coaching.

Her book Global Leadership & Coaching – flourishing under intense pressure at work [Routledge] calls for higher ethics, diversity, sustainability and joy in coming to work.

The session will start at 5.00 pm and will finish at 6.30 pm.
