Norma Jarboe OBE

Norma Jarboe is the founder and director of WomenCount which benchmarks the participation of women in leadership roles in Higher Education. She was previously Director of Opportunity Now (1999-2008), the UK’s leading employer network to advance women in the workplace and past Chair and Trustee of the Women’s Equality Network Wales, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.


Tracey McDermott CBE

Tracey joined the Standard Chartered Group in March 2017. She is the Group Head, Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing and Group Head, Conduct, Financial Crime and Compliance. Prior to this, Tracey was Acting Chief Executive of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) from September 2015 to June 2016, having joined the then Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 2001. She is Co-Chair of The 30% Club Higher Education Initiative.


Elizabeth Passey, MA Hons

Elizabeth is Chairman of The Rural Payments Agency, a Member of the Board of the National Lottery Community Fund, Non-Executive Director of VPC Specialty Lending Investments PLC, Chairman (Convener) of The University of Glasgow, Chairman of the Committee of Scottish University Chairs, and executive committee member of The Committee of University Chairs. She is Senior Adviser to J Stern & Company Private Investment Office, a Trustee (past-Chairman) of the Wye & Usk Foundation, and a founding Trustee of The Black Mountains College Project. She is an ambassador for The 30% Club and Co-Chair of The 30% Club Higher Education Initiative. 


Melanie Richards CBE

Melanie is the Former Deputy Chair of KPMG UK and is a strategic, commercial, collaborative and compassionate leader. In 2016 Melanie received an Honorary Doctorate, Business Administration from Oxford Brookes University. In 2017 Melanie was named the number 1 Financial Times Female Champion for Women in Business and in 2019 she received a CBE for her contribution to business and the diversity and inclusion agenda.

This event is open to all, but we particularly welcome:

  • Women who are in the process of establishing or have already established a spinout company
  • Scientific experts already on company boards
  • Those with an interest in becoming a board member in the future

This event is free and part of an EPSRC funded project, Promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in University Spinout Companies: A Case for Action which aims to explore and address the underrepresentation of women as founders of university spinout companies.
