Alan is a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Events Management and MSc International Events Management courses. He joined Oxford Brookes in 2018, following a successful period as Course Leader on the Music & Live Events Management course at Bucks New University.
Alan brings a wealth of industry experience to his role, supporting students in their academic studies and a variety of events experiences as they search for that first big opportunity.

Following an introduction to the music business through retail in Edinburgh, Alan moved into record company sales before eventually relocating to London. He worked successfully in senior marketing roles for a number of record labels, then in artist management, representing a range major international artists. He eventually established his own marketing and artist management consultancy and has been involved with a variety of successful projects for both major labels and self-released artists.
He became involved in teaching in 2006, initially in part time roles at BCUC (now Bucks New University), The Academy of Contemporary Music and The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. He also contributed to the establishment of Amplify, a private provider of music busines training and education. He became a full time member of staff at Bucks New Uni in 2012, and as Course Leader on the BA (Hons) Music and Live Events Management helped to successfully develop the course, which achieved outstanding scores of 100% for 'Overall Student Satisfaction' in the National Student Survey (NSS) in 2017 and 2018.
Alan received two nominations in the 2019 Brookes Union Teaching Awards for 'Best Academic Adviser' and 'Diversifying in the Curriculum'.
