    Dr Carmelina Lawton Smith

    Dr Carmelina Lawton Smith is a coaching and development specialist who combines her lecturing role on the MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice with consultancy. She has helped a number of organisations set up and manage coaching or mentoring schemes, and run assessment centres to evaluate coaching skills. She regularly designs and delivers short courses and CPD sessions to enhance coaching and mentoring skills, with recent topics including positive psychology and resilience in leadership.

    Carmelina has extensive business experience gained in a variety of roles across both the private and public sector. Having managed a large team she brings management experience and a practical and realistic approach to development projects. She has experience in both customer facing and operations management and has worked within training and development internationally. Recent projects include working with Brita UK, BMW, Civil Service Learning, an International Organisation in The Hague, Peabody Housing Association, Imperial College London and Public Health England.

    Carmelina is currently facilitating on the Oxford Brookes ILM Level 7 Coaching & Mentoring Programme.

    Team - Barbara Kemp

    Barbara Kemp

    Barbara works in the Business School as a Module Leader for the Developing Leadership Capability module on the Global MBA.

    She is an HR professional with over 10 years’ experience in HR management and twenty years in consultancy. She is a qualified coach and has held a range of HR posts with organisations such as Ford Motor Company and HSBC, and worked for SHL (now CEB, the International company of Occupational Psychologists) for 5 years as a Principal Consultant.

    She is currently involved in consultancy activities for the Faculty of Businesses Commercial Services division, running a range of leadership and management development activities.

    Examples of recent and current projects include designing and delivering a management development programme for a UN Organisation, developing a team culture programme for senior managers in the retail division of HSBC, leadership development programmes for BRITA UK, Elsevier Publishing, the Guinness Partnership, Infineum, and the Metropolitan Police in London, Coaching workshops for Aspen Group, and Executive coaching for senior managers in Siemens Financial Services, Paragon Group, DS Smith, Co-op Group, Cardtronics and Worcester Bosch.   

    She also works an associate consultant with a number of external consultancies including ASK Europe and Career Directed Solutions, whilst also looking after her own portfolio of clients. She has particular expertise in working with cross cultural teams and has worked extensively overseas including the US, Europe, Australia, China, Africa and the UAE.

    Barbara is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

    Team - Adrian Myers

    Dr Adrian Myers

    Adrian teaches full-time at Oxford Brookes University and teaches on the MA and doctoral programmes in Coaching and Mentoring and a range of other business programmes in the University.  

    Adrian manages and delivers the ILM Level 7 Coaching and Mentoring programme.

    Adrian is a chartered occupational psychologist and associate fellow of the British Psychological Society.  He has an MBA and an MSc in Occupational Psychology. He has a PhD from Oxford Brookes University.

    In his early career, Adrian worked in sales, marketing and public relations roles in the packaging and steel industries. In the 1990s, Adrian was a Commercial Manager at Tata Steel, responsible for the development of a national recycling infrastructure for steel packaging. Prior to enrolling on a PhD with Oxford Brookes in 2009 and beginning teaching full-time at Brookes in 2013, Adrian worked as a training and development consultant and has many years of experience as an ILM and CMI assessor.

    Team - Peter Jackson

    Peter Jackson

    Peter is a professional coach, facilitator and academic with specialist qualifications and experience of delivering step-change performance improvement. His coaching practice has a particular focus on the challenges of general management and the dynamics of individual change within organisations. He teaches on a number of modules on the MA programme, both in Oxford and Hong Kong.

    Peter has co-delivered on the Civil Service Learning Coaching Foundation Programme.


    Carol Whitaker

    Carol has more than 20 years of experience in coaching and supervision.

    Her executive and non-executive experience is in a range of industries including exhibitions, retail, telecoms, insurance, government, market research and housing. In all of them the development of potential in the people has always been her passion. Her coaching builds on earlier experience in Human Resources in a number of organisations including the Open University, ACNielsen, House of Fraser, LloydsTSB, Orange and the National Exhibition Centre


    Lynn McBain

    Lynn McBain has over 30 years of experience in sales & marketing; she has also worked as a learning & development specialist in this field for 12 years for a wide variety of global organisations.

    Additionally, Lynn has successfully managed high performing key account management teams.

    Lynn has provided consultancy on Marketing Programmes in the Middle East.

    She also creates and delivers sales and marketing training programmes, has developed and implemented in-company training programmes for large blue chip organisations, and has had experience of coaching sales and marketing teams and individuals.

    Lynn has worked with a large variety of organisations including Microsoft, Vodafone, KPMG, Sony & Bacardi Martini. She also lectures at Oxford Brookes in her core subjects which include Marketing and Customer Relationship Management.


    Mike Meldrum

    Having worked with numerous leaders of organisations, Mike has extensive insights into the practicalities of strategic management. Initially from a marketing management background, he moved into the field of strategic leadership development whilst at Cranfield School of Management. He has taught strategy as well as leading many strategy development workshops with client organisations.

    Mike has delivered on a number of client projects, including the Management Development Programme at BRITA UK, and Guideposts. He has worked with start-ups, family businesses, and corporates froma range of sectors and industries, and the public sector. Clients include: NHS Dorset, Renault Retail, Amey Consulting, Shipowners’ Protection Ltd, Johnson Controls International, National Australia Bank.

    Team - Sara Le Roux

    Dr Sara le Roux

    Dr Sara le Roux has a PhD in Economics (2012) from the University of Exeter. Her main research considers whether individuals make optimal decisions in strategic situations, and mechanisms that could improve their decision-making outcomes.

    Dr. le Roux has a Masters diploma in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and an MSc degree in Economics and Experimental Economics from the University of Exeter (2009), for which she was awarded a Dean's Commendation.

    Team - Janine Dermody

    Professor Janine Dermody

    Following postgraduate study of marketing Janine was appointed Senior Research Manager in a marketing research agency. Alongside this she was an independent marketing consultant with a range of clients from commercial, charity & public sector organisations.

    Alongside her academic position Janine advises small non-profit organisations on marketing issues.

    Janine’s research addresses significant societal issues in business, marketing & consumption, media & policy making.  Her principal areas of research are barriers to sustainable consumption and political communication & marketing. She also has an interest in neuromarketing & the impact of technology on marketing & consumer behaviour.

    Janine leads international research on sustainable consumption. Her research will enable governments, policy-makers, business organisations & marketing & communication strategists to positively influence the behaviour of consumers, on an international scale, in order to advance the sustainability agenda.

    She has recently formulated a consumer engagement model for a global customer loyalty and customer engagement solutions organisation.

    Team - Robert van der Veen

    Dr Robert van der Veen

    Dr Robert van der Veen is a Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University. Robert has been involved in several consultancies to produce reliable data and deliver insights with practical relevance. His main research interests are tourism marketing and management. He specializes in quantitative research methods, survey design, index benchmarking and structural equation modelling. His work in understanding tourist behaviour has been published in leading academic journals and has been supported by various national and international research grants.
