    ILM’s leadership and management qualifications help you develop the skills, knowledge and personal abilities you need to succeed

    We are an ILM accredited centre. From level 3 to level 7 the courses cater to all experiences.

    We have designed a tailored ILM level 5 certificate in coaching and mentoring for a major UK housing association and delivered an in house version of the level 7 for an arm's length public body.

    We offer ILM accredited open and bespoke courses in coaching and mentoring and leadership and management and coaching and mentoring from levels 3 to level 7.

  • For managers, in particular, first line managers or team leaders, who want to develop their coaching skills and other staff, academic and support, who provide one-to-one support and assistance to others in their role.

    Programme content

    The course content includes the role of coaching and mentoring, the benefit it brings to organisations, what makes an effective coach and some key coaching skills and techniques.

    The programme comprises:

    • A 2 day interactive workshop
    • 2 half-day group supervision sessions
    • 1:1 tutorial support
    • Self-directed learning
    • 6 hours coaching practice

    Once you have completed the programme, you will receive the ILM Coaching Level 3 Award.

    Learning Objectives

    The qualification consists of 3 objectives:

    • Understanding good practice in workplace coaching
    • Reflecting on workplace coaching skills
    • Undertaking coaching in the workplace

    Course content

    The course content teaches the essential skills for developmental coaching conversations and the benefits of coaching to individuals and organisations. The purpose of coaching is to enable people to learn without teaching by facilitating their thinking. A variety of models are covered, along with an understanding of how individual thoughts, feelings and behaviours are learnt and changed, and how these factors affect the coaching conversation for both the coach and the coachee.

    The course offers you the opportunity to develop coaching skills through:

    • 12 half day webinars and regular weekly activities and milestones
    • Observation sessions for delegates to gain formal feedback from tutors on coaching practice
    • 3 hours of tutorial support including group tutorials and three 30 minute 1:1 sessions with a personal tutor
    • 2 one-hour individual supervision and 1 group supervision session
    • Feedback on draft assignment work
    • Drop in - four optional sessions where tutor will be on-line and available for questions
    • 18 hours of coaching practice with informed volunteers 

    Once you have completed the course, you will receive a Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.

    Learning objectives

    The qualification consists of 3 units. In brief they consist of:

    • Understanding the Skills, Principles and Practice of Effective Management Coaching and Mentoring within an Organisational Context
    • Undertaking Effective Coaching or Mentoring within an Organisational Context
    • Reviewing Own Ability as a Coach or Mentor within an Organisational Context

    This qualification is designed for managers or human resources/organisational development professionals who want to develop their expertise and credibility in the fields of coaching and mentoring, or to establish coaching on an organisational level. It is also for professional coaches and mentors seeking to enhance and accredit their experience with a nationally recognised qualification.

    This Certificate may help you gain access to our MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice if you don’t have an undergraduate degree.

    Our ILM level 7 Certificate for Executive and Senior Level Coaches and Mentors offers you the flexibility to study for your ILM qualification by attending online workshops, working with clients/volunteers, conducting your own guided reading and preparing assignments.
