National Flexible working Day

To mark this event, a conference was held at Unipart in Oxford sponsored by Aylesbury Vale District Council, FlexIT and bChannels and Helen Wright Founder of 9-2-3 Jobs. Over 100 people attended the event and many more joined online for live streaming of the day.

Dr Louise Grisoni, Senior Research Fellow of The Centre for Diversity Policy Research and Practice (CDPRP), gave the opening plenary, setting the context for the day and provided some facts and figures for flexible working. This was followed by a panel discussion with Louise; Diane Lightfoot CEO, Business Disability Forum; Victoria Marcham, Associate Knights PLC; and Nigel Redpath, Senior Solutions Consultant, FlexIT. This panel discussion was moderated by Wesley Smith, TV presenter and journalist.

In the afternoon Heather DeLand, Executive Creative Director and Head of Comms Solutions, TMP Worldwide and her partner Matthew Dupuy talked about how they manage flexible working whilst raising their toddler. A second panel discussion was held including contributors from Oxfordshire Community Foundation and representatives form an organisation called Locale. The discussions were lively and many creative and flexible alternatives were identified encouraging managers to respond positively to requests for flexible working.
