Visiting fellowship at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS)

Dr Ioanna Iordanou is currently undertaking a three-month visiting fellowship at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS), which operates under the auspices of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in Amsterdam.
Ioanna is one of the five nominated fellows who were selected to participate in the Descartes Theme Group ‘Borders and the Transfer of Knowledge, 1400-1800’. The fellows come from Universities in Austria, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the USA, and are working with colleagues based in Dutch Universities. The Descartes Theme Group is part of a collaboration between NIAS, the Descartes Centre for the History and Philosophy of the Sciences and the Humanities (Utrecht University), the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (Berlin) and the Huygens ING (The Hague). Ioanna was nominated as an emerging research leader in the field of pre-industrial business and organisational history. Her research project during her residency at NIAS is entitled ‘Secrecy and Secret Knowledge Transfer in Early Modern Europe’.
