Overview

In this practice-related module, you will have the opportunity to study the development of advanced clinical practice through an exploration of its history, influences and contemporary care contexts. We will explore the four pillars; clinical practice, leadership, education and research, and key themes including the nature of knowledge and clinical reasoning, autonomy, person-centred care, collaborative working and the law.

We will reflect on key concepts that surround advanced practice, considering contemporary issues, challenges and barriers faced, as well as looking toward opportunities for future practice. Major theories will be explored and critical thinking applied exploring philosophy, ethics, political and legal aspects, gender, power and control. There is a strong focus on reflective practice throughout and in developing skills in critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis that can be applied in both academic and clinical practice.
