This study aims to explore the extent to which appropriate 3D metaphors for the representation of real-time Internet-of-Things (IoT) generated big data and derived insights can be developed to support user immersive visualisation and interaction with digital twins for decision support in the operation and maintenance of buildings using data science and XR techniques.
The objectives are:
- establish methods for the federation, representation, storage and management of real-time big data from multiple IoT sensors and extant sources to support decision making in digital twins for the operation and maintenance of buildings;
- develop metaphors for 3D visual representation of real-time sensor and extant data including insights derived from the use of data science techniques on the virtual twin using XR techniques and technologies; use the outcomes from 1 and 2 above to develop and test a platform that supports easy user visualisation and immersive interaction with digital twins for the operation and maintenance of buildings.
