Many of the staff in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics at Oxford Brookes University are engaged in research and consultancy for industry. Oxford Brookes strives to provide high quality research for the real world, employing scientists and professionals who are at the forefront of their fields and ready to share their expertise and build on the excellent links the university has established industry.
Oxford Brookes University is currently working with Italian motorsport organisation Dallara on a new electric powered car for a new Formula Club-E series.
The idea behind the programme is that through collaboration, Brookes, who are renowned for their motorsport and engineering courses, as well as the calibre of the students they produce and Dallara who are at the pinnacle of their field, can together develop a car which will be second to none in the electric motor racing series.
The partnership is now in its third year and is aimed to produce a racing car which will be affordable. At present there are few electric racing cars in the lower pricing end of the market and it is hoped the end product of the project will fill this gap.
The project has also been supported by the engineering consultancy organisation, Claytex. The organisation have offered their expertise in electric powertrain modelling as well as providing lectures to Brookes students involved in the project.
