French Studies and Drama

I love learning new things. With languages you never stop learning as there will always be a new word to add to your list of vocabulary. I have always been interested in the French culture and its language as I used to go on family holidays to France every year

Lucy Hunt has always loved performing and had a passion for learning languages. She chose Brookes because it was one of the few universities that offered the chance to combine French and Drama.

I love learning new things. With languages you never stop learning as there will always be a new word to add to your list of vocabulary. I have always been interested in the French culture and its language as I used to go on family holidays to France every year. My French tutors are fantastic at helping me and directing me in the right way so I can improve my work. I could name one in particular who has been an absolutely wonderful tutor. Every class with her is really interactive which helps improve our French oral skills.

I really enjoy my Drama course because it is very varied, and the practical side of the course allows me to escape the library! I think Drama has given me more confidence and enabled me to further my knowledge about the history of playwrights and the theatre.

Thanks to my course I have become much more confident in my ability to speak a foreign language and I have improved my writing skills in both the English and French. I have also learnt how to manage my time more effectively, and work alongside others and independently.

On my year abroad I studied in Grenoble. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, become more independent, enhance my language skills, explore new places and learn about a new culture. When I arrived I had the responsibility of finding suitable accommodation, opening a bank account, and starting a phone contract. I think that my experience of studying at a foreign university will make me more attractive to future employers as it shows I can be responsible and independent in taking on new challenges.

After I graduate I’d like to travel and learn another language before I start a full time job. Eventually I would like to work in France where I can use the skills I have learnt at Brookes to become a part of French society.
