Limbs Alive specialises in the rehabilitation of the hand and arm for people of all ages who have hemiplegia, often through stroke. They have developed computer games that can be played on PCs, laptops and tablet computers that use motion sensing Controllers. The games are for people who are regaining their arm function after a stroke but who need regular daily therapy to gain enough improvement to make everyday tasks much easier.
Since receiving a Catalyst Award in 2010 Limbs Alive were short-listed for the Medilink UK Awards 2011 and were finalists at the 7th Annual Grand Final of Blueprint: The North East Universities Business Planning Competition. They were also awarded two innovation awards at the prestigious 2011 Medical Futures Awards. As well as winning "BEST INNOVATION TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE", Limbs Alive was named as overall "BEST NHS INNOVATION". Janet is currently in the final stages of negotiations with Intel to secure the investment needed to scale up. They are also in discussions with both Walmart and Boots over the distribution of their products. UnLtd Connect are providing pro-bono legal support for these negotiations.
