Help and advice

  • Help from RBDO

The Research and Business Development Office (RBDO) will help you with your application and developing your business proposal. It is important that you start thinking about this early as you must complete the process before you current Tier4 visa expires if you wish to apply from within the UK.

In the first instance you should make contact with RBDO by emailing We will arrange for you to have an initial discussion about your eligibility, application process and business proposal and we will check to see if you meet the essential criteria for this scheme. Remember that you will need to demonstrate that you have the potential to develop an innovative business idea and entrepreneurial skills.

If you appear to be eligible and your business proposal has potential for further development, you will be assigned a mentor who will help you further develop your idea. When you have developed your business plan, it may be submitted to the University’s Commercialisation Review Panel which will assess the viability of your business proposal.

If you are successful, the University will issue a formal letter of endorsement which you will need to submit along with other documentation as part of your application for a visa. If you have a query about your eligibility for the Tier 1 scheme and its relationship with your existing visa arrangement you should contact the  International Student Advisory Team (ISAT).
