Tell us about your project
An art exhibition to raise money and awareness for the plight of the oceans. Bringing together artists who care about the environment and make art to promote it. A silent auction at the exhibition will raise money for Ghost Fishing, a charity that pulls trawler nets from the sea; their work is essential as 50% of ocean plastic is discarded fishing nets.
Tell us about your pitching experience
It was my first time pitching, so I was very nervous! However, I am really proud of myself for going for it and the Brookes Enterprise team were so supportive and encouraging. The pitching event had a great atmosphere, and it was great that so many people attended and were really engaged with the ideas presented.
How has taking part in the pitch improved your skill set?
The business mentoring from Brookes Enterprise Support was invaluable. My mentor, gave me so much great advice which has really helped me to develop and refine my idea. The pitch itself was a great experience in public speaking, which has never been my strong suit!
How will winning this money help you?
The money will allow me to purchase liability insurance for the exhibition, and to cater a drinks party for the opening night. It will also pay for a speaker from Ghost Fishing to come to the event and help promote it.
What are your next steps?
I am currently finding a venue in Oxford and finalising the list of artists who will take part.
What does success once you have spent the money look like?
The best outcome for the exhibition would be to sell all of the artworks, and raise 2000+ pounds for GhostFishing.
