Congratulations are in order as Anneka Wallington launches Recognised, a jewellery brand with a simple concept; look good and do good. Here’s her journey so far…

After graduating with a BA Hons in Marketing and Business Management in 2016, there’s been no stopping Anneka. After entering the Oxford Brookes Enterprise Support Awards in February 2018, she scooped £3,000 to use towards her idea of making a social impact through fashion jewellery. This was just the beginning. Since then, with the help of the Enterprise Support team, her dreams are turning into a reality.

“The Enterprise Support team have truly been so supportive and have been behind us every step of the way - which has made all the difference.”

The support and mentoring Anneka received at Oxford Brookes led to a well-deserved place on the Santander University Entrepreneurship Accelerator, a week-long programme of practical workshops and Q&A panels, all led by leaders from various industries. The programme also gave Anneka the opportunity to connect with other budding entrepreneurs, eager to share their stories.

“The accelerator was an incredible week! I had high expectations, and it also met my expectations in every way.”

Fittingly on 10th October 2018 (World Mental Health Day), a few months after her £3,000 financial kick-start from Brookes Enterprise Support, Anneka officially launched Recognised. Her new fashion label aims to raise awareness of important social issues and what’s more, 100% of the net profit made from the sale of the brand’s statement Popons™ is donated to worthwhile causes.

By partnering with inspiring charities, which currently include MQ and Student Minds, the Recognised Foundation works to host inspiring events and can financially support these partner charities through the sale of the beautiful yet simple charms.

Now gearing up to the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Competition Final in November, as well as the new Spring and Autumn collections, we’re wishing Anneka all the best for the competition and the future. Bring on the Final!

“Having made it to the final I really am so proud to be representing Brookes.”
