Oxford Brookes University student through to the finals of the Santander Universities’ Entrepreneurship Awards.
Two amazing teams represented Oxford Brookes University at the
semi-finals of the Santander Universities’ Entrepreneurship Awards on the 27th
of June. Both ‘Rent on Trend’ and ‘Oxford Robotics Innovation’ gave a stellar
presentation, showcasing some amazing developments to the judges. Both teams
impressed with their promise, and we, at Brookes Enterprise Support, are
incredibly proud to see the evolution of both teams through their time spent
with us this academic year.
Rent on Trend is an online platform connecting individuals to enable
borrowing and lending of high-end fashion items, reducing consumer expenditure
and environmental damage by introducing the sharing economy to fashion.
Oxford Robotics Innovation is a venture research start-up, currently
developing solutions for immersive content. Their first product is a data glove
called “Midas Glove” to be used within virtual and augmented reality.
Competing against the 20 best start-up businesses that UK universities
have to offer, Rent on Trend won the people’s choice, making it through to the
finals which will be held in October. The fierce competition of the semi-finals
was just the beginning, as the finals will see the top businesses competing for
the grand prize. With much at stake, the finalists will be preparing their
pitches and refining their business plans to showcase at the finals.
Additionally, finalists will now be supported by Santander in the run-up to the
finals through an amazing accelerator programme. The accelerator aims to help
the finalists refine the areas in need of more development, and progress on
areas fit for expansion.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work put in by both teams who are a
credit to Brookes Enterprise Support and the University. Iris and Memet
of Rent on Trend have tough competition ahead but through the accelerator they
will have the chance to work on their business and develop their personal
skills. We wish them all the best and support them immensely in this
