Students work with real clients and then present their research as findings and plans to professional audiences in a consultancy context. By providing local employers or groups with bespoke research findings and expert advice, students can improve communication skills and develop a professional network.
Students in environmental science can opt to take a consultancy module in their final year and work in teams to carry out environmental research for real clients.
Another example of consultancy work, starting from day one for architecture students, is the OB1 ' Live project'. OB1 Live gives first years the chance to build structures for real clients to interesting and challenging briefs. Working with trained planners and building control inspectors with budget, construction and site constraints provides student researchers with an invaluable set of experiences.
The project also gives students the opportunity to demonstrate applied knowledge and develop their professional skills.
