Obrey-Alexis

Our congratulations go to Dr Obrey Alexis at Oxford Brookes University who is a senior lecturer within Oxford School of Nursing and Midwifery on winning a prestigious Mary Seacole Award.

The Mary Seacole Awards provide an opportunity for individuals to be recognised for their outstanding work in the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities with funding of up to £12,500 awarded to projects benefiting the community’s health outcome.

Obrey will use his £12,500 funding to further his current research on prostate cancer in black men. His study will focus on  investigating black African and black Caribbean men’s experiences following treatment for prostate cancer and will examine their perceived health and supportive care needs.

Black men are two to three times  more likely to develop prostate cancer than white males in the UK and Dr Alexis will undertake this study by interviewing black men to determine their needs.
