Sport England and Oxford Brookes LGTB+ 'Research in Sport Network Meeting' brings researchers, practitioners, NGB leaders, sport developers and policy makers together.
The event held at Oxford Brookes on 9 January, was a great opportunity to bring together a range of academics, practitioners and policy makers who are all committed to understanding and improving the experiences of LGBT+ people within sport, exercise and physical activity more widely.
The real benefit of this network, established by Oxford Brookes in partnership with Sport England, is that it is a space for policy makers and practitioners to engage with, direct and shape research projects to answer the questions that are meaningful and important to change.
“It was great to hear the wonderful work taking place at Loughborough University in their Centre researching transgender and gender diversity in sports participation. Particularly how they are exploring the debate from a multi-disciplinary perspective, considering policy, physical education, elite sport and more” Dr Adam White (Lecturer in Sport & Coaching Sciences)
One participant said 'For me it has provided contacts both inside and outside of academia which will be so important when making sure my research is used and known outside of academia'
There will be holding another event in July 2020 at Loughborough University with the intention to address how the research should be used by sport governing bodies and practitioners. For more information about this please contact email@example.com
