This module will provide an opportunity for midwives to acquire additional skills and expand their knowledge relevant to high risk conditions that affect women and explore the impact of those conditions throughout the childbirth continuum.
Through active participation in multi-professional conference style study days, midwives will be able to discuss the care needs of women with pre-existing or pregnancy induced medical conditions and in practical sessions, develop expertise in the specific skills required for safe, compassionate and effective care of high risk women.
Successful completion of the module will then enable midwives to safely and effectively care for high risk women in obstetric units and support the future acquisition of advanced knowledge and skills required for high dependency unit care.
Note: This course can also be attended as a stand-alone study day/s for midwives who do not wish to undertake the full module.
This module can be taken as part of a masters pathway in the Health Sciences Open Award.
