I graduated in History from the University of Exeter in 2007, after which I completed a year-long PGCE course in Primary Education at the University of Southampton. Following that, I enjoyed four busy, happy and memorable years as a primary school teacher.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed teaching – and plan to carry on in this career – I realised that I missed being the learner again! I thought that I needed to complete my academic aims before progressing further with my career.

As I am a full-time student, I have relished the opportunity to take the time to really engross myself in a historical topic that captures my interest. Having group discussions and seminars has been a good way of getting to know my course mates and share ideas.

The city of Oxford is incredibly beautiful – you always see something new! The city itself is such a hub of learning that students of any age and background feel included and being a master’s student at Brookes entitles me to use the Bodleian library and its contents. This incredible resource is invaluable and has definitely enhanced my studying experience.

My aim for the future is to return to teaching. A master’s qualification demonstrates dedication and self-organisation and also opens up additional career possibilities for teaching at different age groups and levels. Having returned to studying after working, I hope that enrolling on this course conveys my genuine enjoyment of learning: liking learning is certainly beneficial as a teacher!

I have truly enjoyed my time here. Getting to know hall-mates, course friends and tutors has really provided a perfect social and academic year in this wonderful city.
