Where the Right Gets In: Rawls and Habermas on Morality and Legitimacy with speaker Dr Gordon Finlayson, University of Sussex
Dr Gordon Finlayson studied French and German at the University of St. Andrews, with philosophy as a minor. Thereafter he took an M.A. in Continental Philosophy and completed his PhD on Hegel's Criticism of Kant at the University of Essex. Afterwards he held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Freie Universitaet and studied ancient Greek at the Humboldt University of Berlin. From 1995 to 2004 he was a lecturer in the philosophy department, teaching in Modern European philosophy at the University of York, and was a core member of the School of Poliitics, Economics and Philosophy, before moving to Sussex in October 2004. Where he became part of the core faculty in Social and Political Thought and convenor in 2008 (and director of the Centre for Social and Political Thought) from 2009.
Dr Gordon Finlayson was a member of the Executive Committee of the British Philosophical Association from 2004-2012 and was Chair of the Society for European Philosophy until 2011. He is a member of the Programme Committee of the Forum for European Philosophy, and campaign actively for the humanities and philosophy in Higher Education.
