Teachers' professional learning: engaging with a video based website for developing strategies to teach argumentation in sciencewith speaker Shirley Simon, Institute of Education

This project involved the development of a website incorporating video material of teachers implementing argumentation strategies in science classrooms. The strategies included group work, teacher roles and lesson design. A group of 8 teachers, 4 primary and 4 secondary, attended three workshops to engage with the website materials, put ideas into practice and share outcomes through feedback and personal diaries. The research focused on aspects of teachers&aphos; engagement and professional learning, using a theoretical framework based on models of teacher development and informed by the concept of mediated action. The talk will report on the development of the website materials and the research.
