The Legal Establishment of the Church of Scotland and the Potential Effect of Independence with guest speaker Dr Alexander Forsyth, New College, University of Edinburgh

Dr Alexander is a Hope Trust Post-doctoral Research Fellow, having recently completed his doctorate at New College. The focus of the doctoral thesis was on mission in contemporary Scotland, concentrating on dynamic modes of mission excercised in the quarter-century after World War II by such as Tom Allan, the Gorbals Group Ministry and Ian Fraser. His background is in law, qualifying as a solicitor in 1992 and calling at the Scottish Bar as an advocate in 1999.

He remains a member of Compass Chambers - profile at www.compasschambers.com/advocates/sandy_forsyth . The present research project is therefore focused on law and theology, considering whether outcomes in civil litigation could be better informed by restorative justice and mediation, accounting for theological concepts such as reconciliation, forgiveness and mercy. He is an ordained minister in the Church of Scotland.
