Congratulations as HSS scholarships awarded

Friday, 30 November 2012

Five Masters students from the Faculty received their scholarship awards certificates at the certificate presentation on Thursday 8 November. Every year scholarship winners are invited to a certificate presentation event hosted by the Graduate School in which Deans from each Faculty, the Director of Oxford Brookes International, representatives from Santander and Brookes staff all attend to congratulate students on their achievements. This years’ winners are… Jacob Hemming, MA History, John Henry Brookes Postgraduate Scholarship; Freya Alexander, MA Creative Writing, de Rohan Scholarship Laurence Blair, MA International Law and International Relations, Santander Scholarship Simon Wilson, MA History of Medicine, Wellcome Trust Scholarship Kristen Diederich, MSc Primate Conservation, John Henry Brookes Postgraduate Scholarship. Kristen said of her award, ’It was an honour to receive this reward and the recognition that I have the skills and experience necessary to succeed in this program. As a returning student, it is quite daunting to give up a full-time salary to return to school full-time, so the financial assistance this scholarship provided was greatly appreciated [although] the program is too highly recommended to have passed up.’ The scholarship awards inspire excellence and support potential in our postgraduate applicants and as a result of these awards Brookes will continue to recruit the brightest and best students to our courses. The awards are funded through a variety of different sources, external benefactors, companies with particular subject area-links, departments, Oxford Brookes International and centrally through the university. Postgraduate Taught Scholarships for 2013-14 will be advertised on the Graduate School’s central funding pages from January 2013.
