Legal Careers talk is a student success

Monday, 03 December 2012

On Wednesday 28 November Michael Holdsworth, Marc Howe and Andrew Kopkin of the School of Law, in association with the Student Law Society, held a legal careers talk for undergraduates in the School of Law. The talk included advice on careers as a solicitor and/or barrister; on gaining relevant work experience; on writing CVs and covering letters; on completing application forms; on preparing for assessment days and interviews; and on making the most of law fairs and othercareers events.  Two students also spoke of their own experiences in applying for training contracts. "As a first year, I think being informed so early of what I should be doing during my next three years at Oxford Brookes in order to get a job will give me advantage in the job market" - First Year Student. "A few weeks ago, I was afraid because people were speaking of applications, work experience and many other Career related topics which I did not know about, but after this event, my mind is more at ease as I now have the information I need to understand what I have to do regarding applications and work experience" - Second Year Student. "I thought I had heard all there was to say about Careers, but this event has shown me there is much more to know and I look forward to more Careers events at Oxford Brookes such as this one" - Third Year Student
