OXILP launches new Business Game

Thursday, 10 February 2011

The Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, in conjunction with local firm Blake Lapthorn LLP, has launched a simulated Business Game for its LPC students. OXILP is the first Legal Practice Course provider in the country to offer this particular programme to its students.

The objective of the Business Game is for students to understand the workings of, and become familiar with running a business. The students are divided up into teams and take the roles of manufacturers and retailers. At the end of the game each group gives a presentation on what they felt were the key successful and non successful factors of running a business. The winning group have the opportunity of a placement with Blake Lapthorn LLP.

The Business Game was developed following feedback from the profession that students needed a greater sense of commercial awareness. The game provides an excellent opportunity for students to exercise their commercial skills and to build on their experiences for training contract applications and interviews.

Some students who took part in the sessions got so involved in their tasks that they refused to take their allocated refreshment breaks, so we think it's safe to say that the sessions were well received!
