School of Law welcomes new Reader in Commercial Law

Scott Morrison

Dr Scott Morrison joined Oxford Brookes University School of Law as Reader in Commercial Law in January 2018. He was previously a fellow and visiting professor at Columbia University in New York City and a fellow at the Centre for Islamic Studies at Oxford University.

Prior to undertaking legal study in England and qualifying as a barrister (Gray’s Inn, 2012), Scott earned an MA, MPhil and PhD in politics at Columbia University. His research focused on Islam and the Middle East, specifically the Arab world and Turkey. Over the last decade Scott has combined his interests in area studies with commercial law, writing on finance and banking compliant with Islamic law. He has published in JIBLR, ICCLR and other refereed journals. His second book,The Law of Sukuk was published by Sweet and Maxwell last year. 

He is currently working on a third book under contract with Palgrave Macmillan for release in 2019, entitled The Future of British Banking. It deals with the impact of Brexit scenarios on UK based financial services.
