The impact of EYPS mentorship

Thursday, 21 April 2011

Dr Mary Wild, Senior Lecturer of Child Development and Education has had an article published in the Higher Education Academy’s Escalate Newsletter. ‘Finding a Graduate Voice’ draws on innovations within the Early Childhood Studies degree, linked to the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) programme, and focuses on the development of team work and leadership skills of Early Childhood Degree students through mentoring. Students of EYPS programmes acted as mentors to undergraduate education students who undertook placements as part of their degree. The mentorship programme enabled students to find a voice and the confidence to put their views across. The programme also had a positive impact on the workplaces of the mentors. This programme showed how synergy between the ‘workplace’ and the ‘Academy’ can be promoted. The article and journal are available to read at the Escalate website
