It’s important to maintain a healthy study-life balance and Oxford has plenty to entertain you in your valuable leisure time.
Oxford Brookes’ wide-ranging facilities, classes, and sports teams provide our students with lots of fun and affordable ways to keep in shape, whatever your level of sport and exercise.
Our history of elite sporting achievement includes huge success at the recent 2016 Rio Olympics. We are in the top ¼ of UK universities for performance level and our top 5 competitive university level sport teams are:
Casual and fun, our Brookes Active initiative ensures that students have the means and motivation to keep fit through a regular programme of fun and informal events, classes and activities. This centres not only on sport and exercise but also mental health and wellbeing.
Music, art and literature all play an important in part in the lives of our students, both on and off campus. You could perform in a band or classical ensemble, direct or star in a play or film, visit one of Oxford’s world famous museums and galleries for inspiration or enjoy a renowned author’s talk while volunteering at the famous literary festival.
Brookes Union helps you get the most from your time as a student. Joining a society or club is a great way of making new friends, meeting people with a common interest and pursuing a passion. We have over 60 societies you can join: from hobbies, culture, and politics, to music and courses, there are many societies to choose from. And if you have an idea for a society, the Union will support you to get started.
Our International Student Advice Team (ISAT) also organises social events for international students during Arrivals week and throughout the year to enhance your student experience at Brookes.
Cosmopolitan cafes, historic buildings, lush green parks, quaint markets and modern shopping malls make the city a great place for relaxing.
The multi-cultural Cowley Road area of the city is buzzing with restaurants, delis and coffee shops offering cuisine from all over the world. Here you’ll also find the O2 Oxford music venue where many bands kick off their UK tours.
And there are beautiful green spaces throughout the city including stunning South Park and many meadows and riverside walks.
