Hong Kong, BSc (Hons) International Hospitality Management
They’re really helpful. The staff in the library helped assist me during the early stages of my degree when I didn’t know where to go or how to borrow books.

Why did you decide to study in the UK?
Actually for my career, because I will be in a more competitive position when I go back to Hong Kong as I will have experience around the world. Then also with the placement a year in the course – it will really help me to stand out.
Why did you choose to come to Oxford Brookes?
I was looking at hospitality courses and their rankings when I saw Oxford Brookes in the list. On top of that too it’s way cheaper than the ones in Switzerland. Also my cousin who has worked in Hong Kong recommended this university as one of the newer hospitality schools.
Why did you choose to do hospitality and management?
It’s actually because I wanted to meet more people. I started off my younger years thinking that I wanted to be in IT, then I thought about it and my friends told me that if you’re doing IT you’d have to be alone a lot. I didn’t want that to happen, so I went to the next extreme and went into hospitality to see how things work and I’m enjoying it so far. With Brookes in particular there is the opportunity to work in the Brookes restaurant, and also take part in a job placement in which you get a lot of assistance.
How does the teaching style differ here in comparison to back home?
The teacher student relationship here is definitely more casual as you can even call the lecturer by their first name, which I’m still trying to adapt to. The lessons too are more flexible.
Have you got any tips for future international students?
Especially for Asian students – locate your nearest supermarket, a Chinese supermarket, a Indian supermarket, or even a Korean supermarket then you will be set as you can get all the food and supplies you need, then you will be happy.
How have the staff at Oxford Brookes assisted you during your time here?
In the careers department they helped me with reviewing my CV and helped me with how to appear like a good candidate. Then they helped me find my part time job. With Upgrade too, they helped me with creating bibliographies.
