China, Pre-Sessional English course progressing onto MSc International Hospitality, Tourism & Event Management

I took the Pre-English [Pre-Sessional English] Course from OBU, I found it is very useful and effective to me to improve my academic English skills. It also helps me to adapt to the British educational system [teaching style], which is quite different from Chinese. It has also improved my critical thinking, learning and writing skills, it is helpful not only to study and work. It helped me to be a more critical person.

Why did you choose Oxford Brookes University to study?

I want to study something different from my undergraduate major. I am very interested in business and hope to make [manage] a hotel by myself. So after communicating with my family, they are very supportive of my choice. Oxford Brookes University is also very famous for these majors. That’s why I chose this site.

How has it been studying during the COVID-19?

I have mostly finished my master degree… I really want to go to campus to experience the library, restaurants, as well as different cultures on campus. But I think with online learning, I can watch the lecture recordings as many times as I want, I think it is actually more useful and suitable for me to study than offline teaching.

Have you made any friends at Oxford Brookes?

Yes, mostly from the Pre-sessional English Course, as it gives us many opportunities to communicate and share ideas.

What do you most look forward to when you come back on campus in the UK?

It would be such a pity for me to not be able to visit the campus while I am studying at Oxford Brookes. And I am also looking forward to experiencing different lifestyles, culture and making friends from all over the world. I believe stepping outside of my home country would make me a more rounded person with colorful and meaningful experience.

Can you sum up your time at Oxford Brookes using only one word?

EXCITING!
