China, MSc Marketing after completing a BSc in Accounting and Finance at Oxford Brookes

I would say that the January entry, that semester was probably the best experience I have got so far in terms of study in the UK. We are a really small group of people and we all talk to each other, so we can study and hang out together.

Nick Zhang - China, MSc Marketing after completing a BSc in Accounting and Finance at Oxford Brookes

Why did you choose to study this course at Oxford Brookes?
I was pretty much affected by my friend who was doing Marketing for his undergraduate degree. I’m satisfied with the university life I have in Oxford Brookes and I’m happy to stay. I’ve been to one of the open days for the Marketing master’s course and I had a look at the course contents. It had really helped me, because you have a chance to talk to the lecturers and if you have any particular question you could ask them.

What’s the best thing about the course?
The best thing about the course is the group work. It’s good because it’s the reality, you have a chance to decide who you work with and then just a lot of complex situations begin to happen. You have to criticise about the group work itself because you meet loads of different kinds of people. Lots of the coursework is really practical.

Which learning facilities do you use and how do you find them?
The most frequent access facility for sure is the library, and then it’s the computer lab. I absolutely love the new library, it’s amazing. It’s absolutely a new experience. I would love to spend more time there – I love it so much.

How did you settle in to study on your master's course?
I would say that the January entry, that semester was probably the best experience I have got so far in terms of study in the UK. We are a really small group of people and we all talk to each other, so we can study and hang out together.

What do you like most about living here?
The city itself is absolutely historical, friendly, multicultural and beautiful. I would say my life in Oxford is more in Headington rather than in Oxford city itself. I live in Headington and I have to go to Wheatley too, where the Business School is located. But Headington has restaurants, shopping, and supermarkets too - it’s amazing.

Would you recommend Oxford Brookes University to other international students?
I’ve studied at Brookes; I know some of the courses which are good. If you’re interested, go and look at their course contents. If you can email them, contact them. Just try anything in person, but not through other people. I study Marketing and we all know word of mouth, which is a good thing, but you should take a look at it yourself. And when you sign up, you wouldn’t regret it because then it’s an option that you made.
