First of all, the city of Oxford has not been chosen
randomly; three main criteria were used to decide to come to Oxford: public
safety, quality of education as well as a multicultural environment.
Concerning
choosing Brookes, I was recommended by several students to study a pre-sessional
English course at Brookes to prepare myself for my future course. When I
finished my study, I could say honestly that the pre-sessional English course is value
for money.
During my study, I practised researching, preparing and writing different
types of essays, and using academic sources to support my arguments.
Additionally, I practised giving presentations based on aspects of my future discipline,
reading journal articles, attending various weekly lectures as well as
participating in seminar discussions. So, it is evident to me that the first
step of a successful academic life can begin with a pre-sessional course.
Regarding the teaching style and curriculum, I found my
tutors experts in teaching academic skills for my future degree. Also, the majority of modules were organised and beneficial. Also, the class was
fairly mixed in the nationalities of students, which enhanced the culture of
helping each other during the study. For students' spare time, Oxford Brookes has lots of societies, and I am a member of the Saudi society.
To sum up, the pre-sessional English course supports a student
to be independent and confident regarding fundamental academic skills.
