  • Databases for Psychology and Child Development

    • Child Development and Adolescent Studies: references to the current and historical literature related to growth and development of children and young people up to the age of 21. Covers journal articles, books, book chapters, theses and dissertations with many full text links.
    • PsycINFO - useful for all aspects of psychology, including child development and educational psychology. Includes summaries of journal articles with some full text, details of books, reports and dissertations. Covers material published since 1806.
    • Academic Search Complete - a multi-disciplinary database, many articles are full text
    • MEDLINE via Ebsco - biomedical coverage including psychology. Useful for special educational needs.
    • Web of Science - contains the Social Sciences Citation Index and Science Citation Index. They provide summaries and some full text from a wide range of key journals for all aspects of psychology and child development.

    Databases for TESOL

    • Communication & Mass Media Complete - this database covers language and linguistics, as well as other subjects such as advertising, broadcasting, communication, cultural studies, film, journalism, mass media, radio, rhetoric and television.
    • MLA international bibliography - a bibliography of many journal articles, books and dissertations. Subject coverage includes literature, language and linguistics, folklore, literary theory and literary criticism.

    Database for Management

    • Emerald - the Emerald Insight database covers a wide range of mainly management related subjects. The full text of these journals is available from 1994 onwards.

    Databases for the Social Sciences

    • International Bibliography of the Social Sciences - covers anthropology, politics, sociology and economics. Useful for examining community dimensions of education e.g. home school links.
    • Social Science Citation Index - available on the Web of Science database and provides references to items from key journals in the behavioural and social sciences including education.
    • Sociological Abstracts- covers a broad range of sociological subjects and related areas from material published since 1952.

    General databases (including newspapers)

    • Academic Search Complete - a multi-disciplinary database which includes a range of education journals, many articles are full text.
    • Collections of UK and international newspapers (current and historical)
    • Zetoc - British Library's Electronic Table of Contents (ETOC). Covers about 20,000 current journals and conference proceedings published since 1993 and updated daily, provides bibliographic details only.
