    This collection has been set up in collaboration with the Poetry Centre to promote contemporary poetry from the UK, Ireland, United States and beyond. It can be found on Level 4 of the JHB Library in Zone D and all the books can be borrowed.

    The Poetry Centre Collection comprises books that have been shortlisted for these 6 poetry prizes:

    • TS Eliot Prize for Poetry is awarded every January by The Poetry Book Society  
    • Forward Prize for Poetry: Best Collection is presented annually by the Forward Arts Foundation  
    • Irish Times Poetry Now - the winner is presented at the annual Mountains to Sea dlr Book Festival
    • National Book Award for Poetry is announced every November by the National Book Foundation (USA)
    • ™PEN Award for Poetry in Translation is an annual prize awarded by  PEN America for a book-length translation of poetry from any language into English. 
    • The Corneliu M Popescu Prize for European Poetry in Translation is a biennial prize awarded by The Poetry Society for a volume of poetry translated from a European language into English. 

    The Collection also includes the poetry pamphlets published by  ignition press, a new poetry imprint set up in 2018 by the Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre.

  • Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre

    The Poetry Centre is based within the Department of English and Modern Languages at Brookes. It actively promotes poetry through its Weekly Poem initiative which showcases the work of independent presses and their poets. It also offers podcasts featuring local poets and hosts an annual programme of events including conferences, research seminars, workshops, exhibitions, readings, and community projects. In February 2016 the Poetry Centre celebrated its inaugural International Poetry Competition with an event at Oxford Brookes. In 2018 it established ignition press with the aim of publishing poetry pamphlets from emerging and established international writers.
