    Below you can find the databases and online resources most relevant to Hospitality and Tourism. They are grouped by the kind of information you can get from them:

    • Mintel : contains information about the UK consumers lifestyles as well as industry, leisure, retail, travel and tourism reports. Use our guides to searching and browsing Mintel: How to use Mintel
    • Passport (also known as Euromonitor) : contains information about International markets, consumer lifestyles, country, and economic reports from Euromonitor International. Take a look at our Passport guidance: How to use Passport
    • Marketline : provides accurate and up-to-date research reports on companies, industries and countries for every major marketplace in the world. Reports include Company SWOT analysis, Industry Five Forces Analysis and Country PESTLE analysis. How to use Marketline

    Market research is a commercial information type - market research reports are written by professional market researchers and they are written for an audience of professionals who work in commercial markets. These professionals use market research to better understand a particular market.

    Although market research is a commercial information type they can be used as a source of information in academic assignments if they are published by a reputable market research company (e.g. we subscribe to Passport and Mintel because they are reputable publishers of market research).

    Reports

     

    • Business Source Complete : company profiles from over 10,000 companies. Click 'Company Information' at the top of the screen and then search for the name of the company you are interested in. Short videos and written guides: How to use Business Source Complete (company information tab)
    • Marketline : provides accurate and up-to-date research reports on companies, industries and countries for every major marketplace in the world. Reports include Company SWOT analysis, Industry Five Forces Analysis and Country PESTLE analysis. How to use Marketline
    Financial information

     

    • Fame : contains the accounts and details of well over 100,000 UK and Irish companies.  How to use Fame
    • Orbis : contains the accounts and other details of over 1.3 million international companies.  How to use Orbis
    • Mergent : contains financial data for over 14,000 U.S  and 27,000 International companies and annual reports for over 300, 000 globally listed companies going back 20 years. How to use Mergent

     

    Reports

    • Business Source Complete : search for a country plus 'country report' (e.g. New Zealand country report) to find useful information on particular countries.
    • Passport (also known as Euromonitor) : contains information about International markets, consumer lifestyles, country, and economic reports from Euromonitor International. Take a look at our Passport guidance: How to use Passport
    • Marketline : provides accurate and up-to-date research reports on companies, industries and countries for every major marketplace in the world. Reports include Company SWOT analysis, Industry Five Forces Analysis and Country PESTLE analysis. How to use Marketline
    • Google : a good way to find reports from governments, charities, and other non-commercial and non-academic organisations (sometimes called 'grey literature') is to search Google for your keywords and add filetype:pdf. You can also specific a website or type of website to search by using site: (e.g.  site:.tourism.australia.com searches only the Tourism Australia website, and  site:.org searches only websites that have .org in their address).     • World Bank : freely available data from a reputable source on a variety of tourism topics (type 'tourism' into the search box to see what is available). There is also a dashboard where you can see data by country.
    • Virtual Tourism Observatory : a free dashboard from the European Commission to access statistical information on tourism in Europe.
